Automation Design Engineer
Location: Wrexham
Salary: £30-33k
Hours: Monday to Thursday 08:00-17:15, Friday 08:00-16:15 (Average of 21-23 non-working Fridays per year)
Job Type: Permanent

Our client's automation department collaborates closely with their team to lead the charge in revolutionizing remanufacturing processes. They work on projects spanning Initial Design, Build, and Implementation across both UK and overseas facilities. Their team specializes in creating bespoke automated equipment and production lines, collaborating with major suppliers and leveraging cutting-edge technologies such as 3D industrial robots, cobots, and 3D printing.
About the Role:
As an Automation Mechanical Design Engineer, you'll play a pivotal role in designing a variety of automated machines and fixtures for use in our client's facilities worldwide. From initial design to commissioning and ongoing improvement, you'll be involved at every stage of the process.
Responsibilities Include:
- Designing Automated Machines/Equipment from First Principles to Full Design
- Leading Design Reviews and Machine Risk Assessment Reviews
- Preparing and presenting project information and costs at Stage gate 1 to 3
- Providing support for modifications/design changes found at Build/Commissioning stages
- Supporting Existing Equipment in our client's and other companies' facilities
About You:
We're seeking candidates with a strong background in mechanical engineering who can demonstrate:
- A degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering or a related field
- An interest in system/mechanical assembly design
- Ideally, experience using 3D CAD, though full training on Solid Edge will be provided
- Proactive problem-solving skills with an analytical approach
- Dedication, tenacity, and the ability to quickly learn new concepts and work to tight deadlines
