Working conditions in logistics have become a hot topic recently, fuelled by Sports Direct hitting the headlines over working conditions at their Shirebrook Distribution Centres.
This sort of news does drive back the professional image of the logistics sector, but luckily this will be just a blip.
From conversations on this topic with our client base this week, I’m please report the general concise is that such practices are not the way forward and are not representative of the industry.
The UK currently has a high level of employment and demand for staff within Distribution Centres and Warehouses is at a high. To attract and retain staff our client’s, I’m happy to report, believe in creating safe and fair working environments. There has been for many years a strong move toward employee engagement to ensure colleagues feel valued, appreciated and want to come to work.
So let’s hope the media see the situation at Sports Direct for what it is, a isolated incident that isn’t reflective of the logistics industry as a whole.
