The BJD Group is recruiting a Purchasing Director for a Trade Tools and Hardware Retailer. Our client is recognised as an industry leader and is offering a competitive salary of £75-£80k (depending on experience) and benefits,

The Role:

Reporting directly to the Managing Director, as Purchasing Director you will manage a team of buyers and have full responsibility for selection of a large range of products for both wholesale and retail. Having a wealth of industry knowledge and experience working with China and the Far East, you will ensure competitive margins against other retailers and wholesalers in your industry. All products must be tested and approved to all CE standards.

Duties for the role of Purchasing Director:

• Select all new products

• Responsible for signing off on all stock purchase orders and pricing

• Identify products and ranges aimed at enhancing the product offering

• Collaborate with buying, testing and marketing teams to ensure products are launched within set timeframes

• Schedule all new product testing and product evaluation with the in-house engineering team

• Viewing all goods inward Quality Control reports, new product evaluation reports, warranty reports and making company decisions as to next course of action

• Work with relevant team to take decisions on product deletion from the range

• Working with marketing team to identify products for promotional activity

• Managing the flow of new products from import through the new product engineering team and then private label development with marketing

• Set Trade and Retail prices for all newly selected products based on company margin requirements

• Ongoing review of retail market to ensure that current and new products are competitive

• Selection of inbound shipping agencies.

Ideal candidate:

• At least 10 years' experience in a managerial role with a successful track record in procurement

• Experience of direct imports of finished consumer products from the Far East is essential

• Ability to understand and influence key financial purchasing issues and senior team members

• Ability to explain, present and influence in a clear, concise, compelling and consistent manner

• Ability to plan, prioritise and delegate to achieve deadlines

• Ability to make difficult decisions

• Knowledge of the key market commodities, the processes and the major suppliers

• Proven track record of leading teams

• Excellent, clear and concise communication skills.
